Abraham and the Investment Banker

An Investment banker was walking through desert and came to a camp of nomads. While approaching the camp he saw a man among a flock of sheep. The Investment Banker said hello to the man who introduced himself as Abraham. The Investment Banker complimented the man on the quality of his flock and asked how long it took to aquire such a herd.

Abraham replied, only a little while.

The Investment Banker then asked why didn't he get a larger flock.

Abraham said he had enough to support his family's immediate needs.

The Investment Banker then asked, "but what do you do with the rest of your time?"

Abraham said, "I sleep late, play with my children, nap with my wife, Sarah, stroll among the camp visiting where I sip wine and tell stories, I have a full and busy life."

The Investment Banker scoffed, "I am a Harvard MBA and could help you.You should spend more time making your flock larger and with the proceeds, buy some land rather than drifting about. With the proceeds from the land you could buy a larger ranch and larger flocks and branch out into other livestock, eventually you would have a large enterprise with thousands of acres and hundreds of employees. You would be selling thousands of livestock each year. Instead of selling your inventory to individuals you would sell directly to the processor then eventually opening your own meat processing facility. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this desert and move to a larger city, and eventually NYC where you will run your expanding enterprise."

Abraham asked, "But, how long will this all take?"

To which the Investment Banker replied, "15-20 years."

"But what then?"

The Investment Banker laughed and said that's the best part."When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions."

"Millions. Then what?"

The Investment Banker said, "Then you would retire. Move to the quiet and beautiful desert where you can sleep late, play with your children, nap with your wife, Sarah, stroll among the camp visiting where you can sip wine and tell stories."

While I was scanning through books in the library, I found this amazing article. Its awesome and truly speak of what an i-banker can do.

Literature is as rich a teacher as science, but merely differs in technique. Literature takes us into peoples' minds, science takes their minds and categorizes them. This is why literature will always be perceived as being more human, because it relates to emotions rather than to logic, and humans are creatures of emotion. Science cannot describe these emotions.
The aim of science is to find out and explain the properties and structure of objects. But literature, on the other hand, focuses on stimulating and understanding of everyday life. It is a means of gaining culture and enriching our knowledge in different areas of activity. It can help us to have a great imagination and it makes things easier when it comes to making compositions on different themes. It gives us the possibility to speak about science, even if we don't work in this domain, or we can express our opinion about a political aspect, just because we have read something connected to that. It offers us the possibility to enter the world of imagination, and to leave apart the real one for a couple of hours. We come to meet kings and queen, epochs many years ago, dream in the world of the rich or imagine how life will be in the future. It gives us the possibility to be another character in the story we read, to judge it from our perspective, to imagine the ending of it. Sometimes, we identify ourselves with the characters in the stories we read and they can give us some clues to solve our problems and how to react in certain circumstances. Books are inspired from reality because even if authors are considered to be somehow different from common people, they are in fact preoccupied by the same problems as we all are and suffer like us, too. Literature is said to be the mirror of the society. If we know how society operated in the past, it is due to the literature of the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, the Romantics, and even today, literature portrays social phenomena, politics or new ideologies.
To conclude with, I would like to say that literature is the perfect means to enrich our culture, to express correctly and have a rich vocabulary, to be able to interfere in conversations in different fields of interest and to really be considered an erudite person.
